Was struck my the message Pastor Lewis sahred yesterday on the salt and light passage in Matthew 5:13-16. What impacted me most is the picture he showed us which is a group of youths laying hands and praying for another youth. The surprise was that the picture was taken at a Buddhist Sunday Youth Group Meeting!
God has called us to be unique and distinct in the world we live in, in our schools, our universities and our workplaces. What will make us stand out as the salt of the earth and light of the world? By the way we pray? By going on outreach/humanitarian trips? By attending services on Sundays?
We have a loving and personal God who wants to have a relationship with us. He is able to relate to us because He had come down to earth to be among filth like us. Because of His grace and mercy. Because of His great love. We are unique and distinct because we have a relationship with our Heavenly Father. We do not have to do anything to earn His love and salvation. And we're compelled to love His people because He has first loved us. We're commanded to make disciples, not converts.
You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
