Seen on a packet of jackfruit chips from Vietnam:

By a special system, the chemical substance (which one?) is not used in the manufacturing process for the fresh fruits processing into dried products in maintaining their nutritive facts (huh?), natural colours and flavours.

These products have also a good smelling and crunchy feature which will give a good taste and provide more nutritive facts (more what?), vitamin, mineral salt necessary to the organism and protect from the extra glucoza (er... yes...).

PMS

Dear Hum,

I am NOT depressed though you "heard" that my life's not well. I am doing pretty well and I don't need your sympathy.

Spare me the crocodile tears.

I really don't give a damn about your life, so quit sticking your nose into mine. It's extremely ANNOYING!

-June-

P/S: Also Don't snoop around my back trying to find out stuff about me when you don't have the guts to ask me yourself. Anyway, don't even bother to.

Dear June

Thank you for your interest in the position of Ministry Administator (Missions).
We thank God for your heart in serving Him in the area of Missions.

After much prayer and considerations, we are sorry to inform you that you are not shortlisted

you when there is a suitable vacancy.

May the Lord bless you and guide you in your work and ministry.

I have mixed feelings when I saw this - relieved because it's a big responsibility and Mon Peng's shoes are too big to fill, and disappointed because I have once again been rejected for a job opening.

Finally some photos...

OMG!!!! I look like Lydia.... Lydia Sum (!!!!) wearing Moo's glasses!

Friday, March 17, 2006

My wound is much better now. All thanks to daddy! I showed him the pus and all and he just went to our corridor, where we place our plants, and plucked some leaves. Told me to crush them and apply the herb to the womb. Mum helped to bandage it. When I woke up in the morning to 'unwind' the bandage, I realized that the swelling went down and the wond was flat! I did the same thing last night as well and now my wound's pretty much dried up. Still sound quite gross lah, but it's really much better! Shall have Doc Ngiam look at it again Hehe....

Went for a meeting yesterday at Pico. They're going through some restructuring and the objective of the meeting was to inform who's going to which department. There'll be 2 exhibition departments and 1 events department and.. yours truly has been allocated as the main admin person for the events department!! I was shocked!
Was really swamped in papers yesterday from the 2 departments I'm helping out with and have totally decided that admin is really not for me. I mean, I really admire people like Lydia and my direct supervisor, Lily, for their eye for detail and their patience. Really amazing! I'm really not agaimst people who do admin but it's really not what I want to do! HR has already told me that if I like the working environment here, I can continue to work here permanently but I didn't expect them to throw me into administration!!!!
My mood was totally ruined after the meeting and found no motivation to go to work at all. Called Moo up to whine and complain (as usual). Sigh.. I really don't understand why they can't put me as Account Exec instead of admin! I asked this girl in EMS who's doing admin now and will be promoted to do sales after the restructuring whether it's a phase that one has to go through before they will release us to service accounts. She said 'sort of'. But when i asked the Account Execs over at SPD, they told me not to waste my time doing admin or sales at Pico. Apparently, I'll have better prospects at other event companies.
(It's quite strange that they kept raving about my degree...... They kept telling me that a degree holder like me shouldn't be doing admin...)
Think I'll go talk to my GM on Monday.

And continue to scout around for jobs... Sigh.. I was so looking forward to working here! I thought my job hunt's over.. But apparently not.. =P

Tuesday, March 14, 2006

Night cycling was really good! I'm surprised I managed to survive the whole event! Not without any accidents of course. I fell trying to remove my helmut at East Coast Park, on the way to Bedok jetty. So embarrassing! Josh and Elaine had to help me disinfect and bandage. But the bandage wouldn't stay coz of my perspiration. Sigh.

When we reached Bedok Jetty, my legs gave way when I got off the bike and I gloriously fell a second time! Aiyoh! So embarrassing!
My butt hurt. My thighs hurt. hands hurt. My wounds hurt.
But I enjoyed it! Really don't mind going for another one like that. Bryner, Josh and Alissa were really good leaders! Bryner's really steady lah! =) Mei, her friend, Vanessa (she's really pretty!), Dorothy, Hui Yi and Vic were in my team. Did I miss anyone out ah? Guess not.. =)

Okie.. This is the gross part.
So I grazed my arm and knee when I fell off the bike at ECP right. They're now oozing with pus-like stuff. Damn gross lah! Mum passed me this white Chinese herbal powder thingy to help try out the wounds. Looks really gross now coz I've got this whitish yellowy dried pus scab kind of thing on my wounds. They look like warts! Eeeeeeeeeeeeee........ So ugly!

Moo said he knew I was going to fall. That was why he kept telling me to take care. Heh.. What to do.. Mum calls me accident-prone. Heh heh..

I'M REALLY HAPPY TODAY!!! =) =)
HEE!
*BIG SMILES*
Totally smiling to myself. Can't help it. Don't know why. =)

Day 3 @ Pico

It's my 3rd day at Pico Art.

I know I sound really sian but I am pretty happy here. =) So far so good lah... The people here are nice, my direct supervisor's a wonderful Christian lady and I'm really enjoying my lunches with here. Am shared between the Special Projects Department (SPD) and the Events Marketing/Management side (EMS). I haven't made contact with the peeps from EMS so far because they've been real busy.

Was approached my the HR Manager this morning. She told me she's planning to offer me a permanent position if I find that I like the environment here after 2 months. Whee!!! But I'll be doing what I'm doing now (admin lor...) with EMS for a start, and then move on to doing more hands-on stuff (sai kang lah.. =P Basically things like procurement of things for events,..and stuff). Sound fun, doesn't it? =)
Suggestion to ask HR to employ me straight away as perm.. Haha.. Think I'm gonna wait till the end of the month to tell her whether I want to work here permanently.

** I NEED A TAN!!!

Thursday, March 02, 2006

Met Jud by accident on Sunday while browsing alone at Library@Orchard! Went for coffee to catch up a bit because we haven't seen each other since her MPC graduation.

Was talking to her about what I want to do - marketing or PR, and she was saying that she's tired of doing market research and wants to venture into something more meaningful, something that will allow her to touch lives.
That got me thinking about my desire to want to work in the real world. I personally don't want to return to working in church till after I've got some experience working in the secular world. Especially so coz I want to do counselling.

Maybe I should review what I want to do as a career. Actually, I'm not a very ambitious person. Heh.. My primary concern now is to pay the debt I owe to my dad. He'll be turning 54 in July and it won't be very long till he retires, and I want to return him his CPF preferably before he does. Currently, I owe him $18k, and counting, for my uni fees. So basically, I looking for a job, not build up a career. Not very exciting hor? =P

Anyways, am gonna start work at Pico Art (ok ok.. I've heard pretty bad reviews about them so far.. heh) this coming Tuesday as a Project Assistant for 2 months. Hopefully, fingers crossed, they'll like me enough to offer me a perm position to do events management. =) And hopefully, toes crossed, that my precious Sundays won't be burnt!

Oh yah! Congrats Moo! =) I'll be behind you all the way!

The Beautiful Wedding

Saturday

Photos courtesy of Sarah Mok's webshots.. :)

Pris and Stephan's wedding is so sweet and touching! You won't believe how many times I teared during the church ceremony!

It was indeed a privilege to be their worship leader. Seeing how God is sovereign and faithful in their relationship really encourages me. The love of God and the fear of the Lord is really exemplified in their love for each other and His people.

Their dinner at Grand Shanghai's great too! The ambience is nice, the food is served in individual portions, music's old school reminiscent of the old Shanghai (also provided by Thmmay, the DJ for the night) and Andrea and Shawn make really good emcees! The couple also did the traditional waltz in their Chinese costumes! The celebration of the unification of a couple who overcame physical, cultural and spiritual boundaries!

Sunday
Had a fantastic lunch with some of my cell girls, and a guy. =) For some reason, Julia and gang won't able to make it for cell lunch, so it was Gayle, Rachel, Beatrice and Reuben. Think it was really divine intervention coz Pastor Stanley, Gayle's dad, spoke to me on Friday, after the tertiary cluster meeting, about the group dynamics within my current cell. The girls weren't motivated to come for cell because they don't feel comfortable, with the other group dominating the discussions (if we had any) during bible study.
Was really glad to be able to spend time talking to the "quieter ones" during lunch! It might sound wierd, but they're actually pretty normal kids! =P Heh.. I totally enjoyed it! (I wonder of they did as well..=)) I found that Gayle and I shared a common love for sweet stuff and she introduced me to Fried Mars Bar. Rachel spoke more during the outing than she had ever before during cell. Beatrice opened up so much! And Reuben is just a really sweet dude.
I've noticed this problem within the cell and have been trying to give more attention to Rachel and group. I don't know how else I can solve this besides splitting the cell and praying like crazy.
I do believe that differences can be overcome. Sounds idealistic, doesn't it?
God, I can't do this alone. I need You!

HASH(0x8e56d8c)
You are a Lily:

You are graceful, gentle, calm, and pure and

perhaps a little shy (though your shyness is

part of your charm). You are a very honorable

person who always wants to do the right

thing. Your calm attitude has a soothing

effect on others.

Symbolism: The lily has long been used as a symbol

of majesty, honor, chastity, and purity of

heart.

My Dogs & Bitches

"If a commission by an earthly king is considered a honor, how can a commission by a Heavenly King be considered a sacrifice?"

- David Livingstone (Scottish missionary)

Wow... this quote blew me away when I heard it during YWAM Base Worship just now.

It's true, isn't it? How we think that having to leave our comfort zone, going into unfamiliar territory, quitting our high-paying jobs to be a 'poor' church worker or missionary are seen as "sacrifices".

As princes and princesses of the King of kings, it is an honour for our Father to commission us to do His will on this earth.
Joseph Chean, Base Director of YWAM said, he has stopped asking God "what is Your will for my life?". He now asks "God, how can You use what You have given me to fulfil Your dreams/visions/will?"

Difficult to fathom.
Hard to let go.
A struggle.
Flesh vs spirit.
World vs God.
Social expectations vs Godly obligations.
Pride vs humility.

"But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead."

Philippians 3: 7-11

Johnson read this yesterday after worship. Never knew what it meant until today.

Kangaroo pouches..

Found out from a friend about this unusual souvenir from Australia...

One of a kind Kangaroo Scrotum Pouch!
Friend says it's their way of controlling the population of kangaroos in Oz.

Really gross lah! But apparently "it's said to be very lucky; all those in possession of one is assured of a long life, happiness and healthy children". It's also "a great sign to attract an opposite gender".

So, why wait? Get yourself a lucky Kangaroo Scrotum Pouch, available at $15 a piece for the standard size, all the way to $41 for a huge pouch!
Or just bid on eBay! =)

Dreams

I've been having restless nights lately because I've been dreaming so much.

2 days ago, I dreamt about the embalmment of my late grandaunt, a devout Christian who passed away last year. It was really wierd and scary.

And yesterday, I dreamt about the death of my mum.
Curiouser and curiouser!

Henderson

Met up with the Henderson girls last week for the first time in a long long time. It was so good because we missed them so much! They seem well and there were no scars on their wrists! Which is really good news! =)
These girls were down for counseling with Lilian and myself for self-harm. It's been about 2 years since we met them for counseling and it's really encouraging to see that they have been good. They all Sec. 4s now!! I feel really old lah..

Anyway, we had lunch and we talked for a while. Promised Shin and I will visit them soon. =)

Bottom: From left: Vivian, Samantha (she's Vivian's friend, who was not part of the self-harm counseling group), Biyan
Top: From left: June/Shin, Xiang Yun

Karen and Elaine were there as well but Karen left after lunch and Elaine didn't want to be photographed.

Other highlights....

The dedication service for Christ sanctuary was really cool! They had the whole procession consecrating the new sanctuary and blessing the furniture and the unveiling of the plaque, which is actually a huge rock. I truly understand why Ringo insists that we don't play secular music in Bethel. Places of worship in church have really been consecrated, set apart for the praise and worship of God and worshippers should not profane Him and His holiness by playing or singing songs that are not of God or from God in the Holy of Holies.

A bit too serious hor..
Anyway, I cut and dyed my hair! Nice nice! =) Thanks to my 'stylist', Moo!
Bought a new skirt from JB! Pretty pretty! =)
In my 2nd/3rd week volunteering at YWAM (Youth With A Mission) for Go Fest Asia 2006. =) I really like the environment there but having to travel all the way to Aljunied everyday is a hassle and sometimes puts me off. Nevertheless, it's an exciting project!

Ah yes.. Watch Geisha! Great great show! What got me was when Chiyo went to the mountain and threw the hanky and newspaper clipping away, and then came full circle with the Chairman. Wah.. That's it man! It's so so hard to let go, but when she did, it was sweet for her in the end.

I'm halfway through spring-cleaning my room and totally lagging behind in my bible reading plan. Hands up, those of you who are with me! =P

Can't wait for CNY! Tong tong tong qiang! Tong tong tong qiang!

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

Ok... So I watched a silly movie about a bunch of teenage girls and what they did on their summer vacation..

But I totally bawled my eyes out!!
Serious!

It's about these 4 teenage girls - Bridget, Carmen, Tibby and Lena who are the best of friends. They went to a thrift shop and found a pair of second-hand jeans which fit each one of them just right, eventhough they're of different shapes and sizes! Bridget was to go to Mexico for a soccer training camp, Lena to Greece to visit her grandparents, Carmen to Charleston to visit her dad, and Tibby is staying to finish up the documentary she was to film. So anyway, they thought the jeans might be magical and used it as a means of communication when they're all away. They had the jeans posted from one person to another and wrote letters to one another.

It's about finding one's true self, hidden under layers of what we're supposed to be, or what other people think we should be.

It's a great chick flick to watch with all your best gal pals!

A big shout out to the dance gals!

Yakitori's street jazz class is starting on Saturday and I wanted to give it a miss because I didn't want to get my mom to pay for it. It's $100 for 10 sessions, which, by the way, is really reasonable. But the glas, being their sweet selves, decided to help me out by sponsoring a big part of the dance fees! Praise God! Karen gave me the good news last Sunday!

Thank you thank you In Motion! Thank you for your big hearts!

In other news.....

Go Fest Asia

I went for a YWAM Associates event yesterday, in conjuction with Go Fest 2006, which is happening in June. This time round, there'll be 4000 delegates coming together from all over the world and being sent, straight from the lil island of Singapore to 15 countries in Asia! Go Fest going to be joined by Arise!, which instils in children and youths a heart for the lost, equip them to share and be a blessing and send them out in God's love.
Which means, not only are adults and families sent to the nations, children and youths are going to be sent as well! It's really exciting to hear Daphne Kirk share about how children's prayers can be specific and powerful. How children as young as 7 can be church-planters, and how they can be praying in the Holy Spirit, crying out to God, feeling His love and compassion for His lost sheep.

It is time for the Jacob generation to rise up!!

To find out more, you can check out the www.gofestasia.com or www.arise-praiseandworship.com.

Went for drinks with Alisa, Saion and his friend Ian after. We bought drinks from 7-11 and headed to the Esplanade to chill. It was really fun!
Ian's an Associate Pastor at Brighton Community Church.. and he's only my age! He's quite a character and really has a huge heart for youths.
We hung out till about 4am before we oldies head home.

Okie.. pictures from Christmas my 56k modem is able to download so far...
No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you... I said 56k .. Sigh..

Narnia

Aiyoh!! The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is so so good!!

Went to watch it with Shin and Mei.. We're probably one of the slower ones to catch it.. But if YOU have yet to watch Narnia, please please do go!!!!

I was so teary throughout the show! It's amazing! It really is! Looking at Aslan and feeling the majesty of our Lord and King, as all of His subjects bow down before Him. Seeing the true meaning of sacrifice - His willingness to take on the consequence of Edmund's sins, being ridiculed and shamed by the White Witch. Him knowing Peter's name and background, just like how God knows each and everyone of His children by name. Aslan counseling Edmund - He is truly our Counselor. How Aslan can be authoritative and gentle, majestic and humble.

Our calling is to be soldiers and warriors for God! We're constantly in battle with the prince of this world, in the spiritual realm. What caught my eye were the shield - representing our faith, and the sword that Peter raised - the word of God.
I was and still am overwhelmed after watching Narnia. Wow!!

I have decided to read the Bible everyday by following the Bible-reading plan. Let's all do it together okie? =)

There was a purpose!!

Yes! There was a purpose!

I was unemployed for the whole of last year... well, not really... I had temp jobs here and there..
As I was saying, I was employed for most of last year because God had a purpose!

I attended quite a few funerals last year and 2 significant ones were my good friend, Alisa's mum's funeral, and Moo's grandfather's funeral.

I was able to be there for them in their time of grief because I was gainfully unemployed. I was able to go down to Alisa's mum's wake and funeral without taking leave from work (what work?) and I was able to spend time with her as she comes to terms with the demise of her mother.

I was also able to go down to Gemas for Moo's grandfather's funeral and spend a few days there talking to his grandma and being there for him and his family.

And because Moo doesn't want to celebrate his birthday out of respect for his grandfather, I could attend the Covenant Service for the very first time!
It was absolutely amazing!! I absolutely know what they mean when people in church say it's good to start the year right. It is!
Eventhough worship was in half-time (hehe..) and the convenant part, where we had to fill in the blanks on the slips of paper with our names, was really scary (the part under "Single Adults" read 'Here I am, send me'), service was fantastic! The food and masala tea from Little India provided so generously by Pastor Rennis and Aunty Amir made it all the sweeter.

Was sharing with Ailing about what I thought was God's purpose for me last year, and she said there's a demand for 'funeral ministry'. Aunty Laura was doing a lot of funerals last year as well.
Okie.. what's my point of mentioning this? Hmm.. I forgot..

Yesterday's dancers' dinner at Peishan's was great! We had loads of pasta with different sauces (ALL made by Miss Chu Peishan herself!), grilled meat, sausages, salad with the most delicious dressing, coconut jelly (from Tiong Bahru market.. gonna go get some soon.. =))... Her 2 dogs are so cute! Especially Ladybird! And Karen's boyfriend, Andy, is really really funny!

I had fun! =)
*Though I feel really bad for not doing anything for Moo.. =P Sorry dude! I'll make it up to you once I get a job okie? =)

She's so pretty! This just shows that you don't have to be stick-thin to be beautiful.

A Week of Celebration

25th Dec

Thanks to Sue-Anne, Shin and I need not spend Christmas alone.
She invited us to her Christmas family dinner, where we had great food (her mum's medium-rare roast beef and cheesecake are simply heavenly!!!) and had a blast getting to know her cousins and Victor!
Thanks Sue!

26th Dec

Shin and I spent the day rotting in front of the TV/computer watching 3 fantastic movies (which all happen to feature black people!). Not being racist here. I love black people...I mean.. African-Americans!

We watched:
Men of Honour (based on the life of Carl Brashear, US Navy's first African-American amputee and naval diver)

Coach Carter (first time watching it... yah.. I know I'm slow...)

Beauty Shop (fell in love with the very beautiful Queen Latifah)

*Christmas pics to be posted later (once I get them from Shin)

More pigging out on Thursday during NUS cell dinner at Su-Lene's place and Saturday for Moo's birthday celebration. =)

Counting down: 3 more days till Moo and sis comes back from KL...
